At 2:30 pm each school day, the CPS students leave the Honickman Learning Center/Comcast Technology Labs and walk with their teachers to the Martin Luther King Recreation Center. Here they begin another three hours of academic, artistic and creative enrichment, faciliatated by CPS teachers, designed to round out the CPS educational experience.
Besides the requisite snack, crafts and free play, the CPS after school program includes many education enhancing activities. Once a week the children are instructed in martial arts, African drumming and art education. They walk to the local library and science center for educational programs. They even spend six weeks in the spring at the local YMCA learning to swim. New for the 2007-2008 school year are weekly tennis lessons in the fall.
The after-school program and its combination of activities will enrich the school’s students, enhance their classroom education, and give them access to a broad range of learning experiences.
