On the Left: Ridge and Diamond: Girl and Leadership; Right: York and Marston Sts: Family BBQ Community Partnership School students and their families recently embarked on an exciting new project to find and photograph Philadelphia murals. Students and families found an impressive 432 murals- wow! We are amazed that our city has so many murals and that our determined students scouted them out! Displayed are just a few of the many murals that Taylor (3rd grade) and her mother found. A special shout out to Nicholas (1st grade) and his parents for finding more than 100 murals themselves! When asked what his mural expeditions were like, Nicholas said that it took all day, and that he and his parents spent four or five days total in search of murals. “We almost got lost!” he recounted. Looks like his hard work paid off!
22nd and Edgley: Young Boy in the City Marlis Kraft-Zemel, our music teacher, threw a pizza party today for the 1st through 3rd grades, which were the three grades with the highest participation. She even presented participating students with certificates. Stay tuned to see what our students do with the murals they have collected. They will be working with the murals in both art and music classes as the fall progresses. These murals will serve as inspiration for poetry and music to be performed at the winter concert. What a great way to learn about and celebrate a form of beauty and activism for which Philadelphia is renowned- its colorful murals! |
