On Tuesday March 9, the Community Partnership School pre-kindergarten and third grade classes were invited to participate in a special visit to founding partner school, Germantown Academy. At CPS, one of the students' favorite activities is African drumming and dance. Through out the year, all grades have the opportunity to learn different drum beats and dance routines in CPS's After School Program under the instruction of Mr. Ira Bond. Students love performing and showcasing what they've learned; recently, for example, students danced for their parents and friends at CPS's Black History Month Presentation (and received a standing ovation!) Students were extremely interested when they learned that the Germantown Academy third grade was also learning African dance in school! The classes decided to share what they learned by performing for each other at GA on Tuesday. Everyone was blown away by what they saw!
Meanwhile, the CPS pre-kindergarten showed their African drumming skills, and the GA pre-kindergarten performed the play, "Mother Goose."
In addition to dancing together, the students had a wonderful time experiencing life at GA for the day, including lunch and recess time. After a fun-filled visit, CPS students were quick to ask, "When can we go back?!" All photos by: Kelly Korman (CPS Development Committee.) |
