On Wednesday, November 21st, it was Thanksgiving at the Community Partnership School. Even though the calendar may have claimed it was a day away, the school was filled with the smell of pumpkin pie and the sight of colorful paper turkeys.
The students in each grade had been working hard all week to prepare their contribution to the annual Community Partnership School Thanksgiving Feast. Pre-kindergarten made the pumpkin pie for dessert, and kindergarten topped it with home-made whipped cream and prepared hot apple cider. First grade decorated the tables with centerpieces--turkeys made by tracing their hands and feet on construction paper. Second grade hand wrote and colored the menus for each child present. Each student added something special to the feast.

When lunch time finally came around, after much anticipation, the students and staff walked quietly through the halls to the Activity Room, which had been set up as a great dining room, complete with tablecloths and centerpieces, and with a menu at each plate. Two students from each class presented to the school what they had made for the feast. Before digging into the food, everyone listened attentively to Mr. Eric Jones's speech. He spoke about what it means to be thankful, what he is thankful for, and why being thankful is important. Then, the whole school joined him in reciting a poem about being grateful for everything, little and big.

After being patient for so long, the students were finally allowed to begin enjoying the fruits of their labor!

After the lunch plates had been cleared, a seemingly endless amount of pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream was passed around. Chatter could be heard among the students that they had never had such good pie before. As each student finished up and began to clear his or her plate, it became obvious that there wasn't much food that needed to be cleared!

Now that all the goodies were finished and it was time to go home, the students at CPS were thankful for the wonderful feast they had just enjoyed...and for the fact they would be doing it all again the next day!
