At CPS Community Concert, Student Stars Twinkled & Shone

4/16/2010

On Saturday April 10, 2010 Community Partnership School presented its first-ever Community Concert, showcasing the talent of the school's young violinists and singers.

Violinists from Community Partnership School perform at the Community Concert.

The event was hosted at Abington Friends School, where CPS was joined by talented students from Chestnut Hill Academy, Germantown Friends School, Abington Friends School, and Got Strings youth orchestra. The student groups thrilled the audience with a variety of music, ranging from traditional folk to classical compositions. The musicians beamed with pride and confidence as they played in front of their peers and families.

The CPS students not only played their violins, they sang.  No one will forget CPS third grader Zahir's beautiful solo as he filled the auditorium with his voice.

CPS's music teacher Beth Dzwil organized this major event as a fundraiser for the school's violin program.  Although it was a large undertaking, the concert ran smoothly and was a wonderful experience for both the audience and the musicians. The student musicians had a great time getting to know each other throughout the day while rehearsing, eating lunch together, and finally, playing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" together-- the concert's final song, in which all students participated!

All 60 students gather to perform "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to close the concert.

When children hear each other playing, it can inspire them to push themselves to be even better. Seeing the determination on the faces of these young musicians reinforces the importance of music programs in all schools.  Every child deserves the chance to explore and develop their musical talents.  CPS is, once again, setting important goals for its students, and with the support from CPS's generous donors, Ms. Dzwil will carry them through.
