Students Learn About Modern Art, Careers and More at SEI

5/24/2010

Last week, Community Partnership School's third and fourth graders visited wealth management firm and CPS supporter SEI Investments, which they quickly learned was not a typical office building! The corporate campus hosts the West Collection, an assortment of very unique and innovative modern art work, including everything from giant beach chairs, mobiles of Michael Jordan, and floating rubber sharks!

Students enjoyed touring the facilities and learning all about the inspiration, craftsmanship, and symbolism behind many interesting pieces of art.

Students were fascinated to learn that Sarah Kabot's sculpture (above) is made entirely of paper!

One of the students' favorite pieces was Sharon Levy's "Cookie" (above). The artist hand painted each of the more than 200 tree rings!

In addition to touring the West Collection, students also spent time with volunteers from SEI. Each child interviewed an SEI mentor, asking questions about their lives, careers and how they got into the field. They also talked with employees about college, favorite books, favorite pets, etc!

The trip was a wonderful opportunity for students to gain exposure to a range of different careers in a unique corporate environment, filled with beautiful artwork! Huge thanks to SEI for hosting CPS for a fun, informative, and fascinating field trip!
