Left: Dr. Evans poses with Ronald McDonald. In addition to medicine, Dr. Evans is also extremely active in education issues, and was pleased to visit CPS and learn from our unique model. Currently, she is working with parishioners at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Center City to found a middle school in North Philadelphia that will provide a Christian-based education for students most in need of a quality education. Dr. Evans plans to open the doors of the school as soon as all the funds are raised and the leaders are selected. During Dr. Evan’s visit, she toured our school and enjoyed a conversation with the third and fourth graders. Students had the opportunity to hear about how Dr. Evan’s first became interested in becoming a doctor. She described the doors that opened to her as "blessings" and reminded students how lucky they are to attend such a great school. Students enjoyed her stories and had many great questions about her life and her work as an oncologist. The fourth grade class shared with Dr. Evans their goals for life after CPS and talked about schools they hope to attend and what they believe is required to attend their dream schools. Dr. Evans ended her visit with individual conversations with Eric Jones, Head of School, Linn Vaughters, Director of Enrollment, Beth Dzwil, music teacher and Dave Kasievich, Director of Development. It was such a pleasure to host Dr. Evans. Her words of wisdom and inspiration were appreciated and well received by the entire CPS Community. |
