Bill Piszek Continues Book-Giving Tradition at CPS

10/24/2008

For the third year in a row, Germantown Academy alumni and Trustee Bill Piszek visited CPS with a gift for every teacher and student.

Arriving at CPS around lunchtime, Mr. Piszek (a.k.a the "book man") received a very warm welcome from students, who excitedly remembered his visits from last year and the year before. When Ms. Jamieson began Community Meeting by telling students that today there was a special visitor who was here to give a gift, the students happily shouted, "Books!"

Bill Piszek shows CPS students the book, My Teacher for President.

This year, Mr. Piszek gave books that focused on a very timely theme: elections and the importance of voting! Book titles included: America Is by Louise Borden, Duck for President by Cronin & Lewin, So You Want to be President by St. George & Small, and Vote! by Eileen Christelow.

The book-giving tradition was started by the Piszek family when Mr. Piszek was in grade school. Now, he visits Germantown Academy and Community Partnership School each year to share his love for reading.

The children wasted no time in immersing themselves in their books, learning interesting Presidential facts, like who the shortest President was (James Madison), or reading about what would happen if a duck ran for President!
