CPS Parent Council Organizes Book Fair

11/7/2008

CPS's Parent Council transformed a third floor Honickman Learning Center classroom into a book store full of fun and educational titles this week, as they organized and hosted a Scholastic Book Fair to benefit the school.

Books, books, and more books!

Students excitedly visited the room full of books this week and got a chance to pick out their favorites. Teachers, also, had the chance to compile a "Wish List" of books for their classroom. The Parent Council collected a generous pile of "Wish List" books that customers, including CPS parents and supporters and community members, bought for the school.

CPS Parent Council members Tobo Houessou-Adin (left) and Marlene Adams (right) staff the book fair, as a few excited students pick out their favorite books.

The fair was spearheaded by CPS Parent Council members Marlene Adams and Tobo Houessou-Adin, who were busy not only selling Scholastic books but also visiting local businesses to encourage them to sponsor the event (see list of sponsors below). In the end, the work was worth it, as the fair raised money and books for the school and encouraged students to be excited about reading!
