As part of their Food and Markets Unit, the pre-kindergarten class took an exciting and educational field trip to Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. After a SEPTA bus ride into Center City, the children set off to explore the market! Students completed a scavenger hunt by searching for a bakery, a fish shop, fresh flowers, a candy shop, fruits and vegetables, live lobsters, and more. At the Reading Terminal Market, the pre-k class finds (and is mesmerized by) a live lobster tank! The children enjoyed lunching on food from around the region and world: Thai spring rolls, Chinese dumplings, Japanese sushi, French bread, Amish cheese, and more. A pre-k student samples sushi. The children were so charming that they even left the market with two dozen warm chocolate cookies--free from our friends at The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company. The students agreed that the best part of the trip was sharing the day with their parents; nine moms and dads were able to chaperone the trip, which made it a wonderful CPS family event. A pre-k mom helps her daughter complete the scavenger hunt by finding fresh flowers. |
