CPS Gets Flexible with Yoga Instruction

5/12/2009

This morning, the Community Partnership School pre-k class was busy stretching and bending into yoga poses-- all as part of a literacy lesson!

As part of their focus on the "y" sound, the pre-kindergarteners learned and practiced different yoga poses under the guidance of Ms. Guha-Roy, who in addition to being a CPS faculty member is also a certified yoga instructor. The children did a wonderful job both in practicing their "y" sound and in practicing yoga!

The pre-k catches on quickly to yoga, practicing a sideways plank pose with Ms. Guha-Roy.

Yoga has become popular with the older students at CPS, as well. This year, Mrs. Meghan Vetri began volunteering during physical education class to teach students yoga. Although for most students, yoga is very different from anything they have tried before, it has quickly become one of their favorite gym activities!
