Laying Down the Law with CPS

5/20/2009

This week, the Community Partnership School second and third grade classes went on a trip to the United States Court of Appeals in Philadelphia to visit Judge Theodore Alexander McKee. Judge McKee graduated from SUNY Cortland and went on to Syracuse University for a law degree. He had a private practice for several years before becoming an assistant U.S. Attorney, Deputy City Solicitor, a member of the General Counsel, a Judge in the Court of Common Pleas and finally a Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals.

CPS students visit the U.S. Court of Appeals to hear about what it is like to be a judge.

Despite his many accomplishments, Judge McKee was down to earth, humble and kind to our students. He answered many questions ranging from “Who is your favorite wrestler?” to “What was the most difficult case you ever worked on?”

After the visit, almost every student in third grade expressed interest in becoming a lawyer or a judge someday!
