This Week's "Pre-Kindergarten Post"
The highlight of last week was definitely our trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The pre-k class, after enjoying a picnic lunch in front of the museum.
Students took a special tour and examined shapes and colors in several different works of art.

The students learn about different shapes and colors featured in artwork.
They learned about how quilts are pieced together and each child worked on a quilt square of his/her own. We will put these squares together this week to make our own class quilt. The art educators at the museum commented upon how curious and respectful our students were.
Right: The students design their on quilt squares at the museum.
Rhyming was a big focus for us last week. We now rhyme all the time—instead of spaghetti for lunch, it’s naghetti. Instead of recess, we call is zecess or mecess.
As we continued our study of families, children shared what they do on Halloween or other holidays with their families. We compared and contrasted how our families are similar and different. On Friday, we finger painted with red and yellow paint to make orange pictures, created jack-o-lanterns with shapes, and listened to a Halloween story at Community Meeting.
This week students will vote in our CPS election!
Last Week's "Pre-Kindergarten Post"
Students have been bringing in photos of their families and our class wall of photos is looking great!
We read two great books about family traditions and special times: Honey, I Love by Eloise Greenfield, and Big Wolf and Little Wolf by Sharon Phillips Denslow.
Last week we did a lot of learning about pumpkins. With our very own Pre-K Pumpkin Patch in the classroom, we discussed the features of a pumpkin, measured the circumference of pumpkins (making “belts” with yarn for each pumpkin), and talked about what might be inside a pumpkin. This week, we’ll open one up!
This Thursday, Pre-K has its first field trip! We will go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to see a special exhibit called Gee’s Bend: The Architecture of a Quilt. Students will learn about the community of African-American women in Georgia who have been making the quilts for generations. We’ll also focus on shapes and patterns we see in the quilts.

Brandon, Griffin, Bianca, and Maeve, our 7th grade friends from Abington Friends School
Three times this fall and again in the spring, 7th graders from Abington Friends School (AFS) will spend time at CPS. We are excited to have these visitors and plan on sharing a lot of fun experiences together.
