Our friendly third graders have acquired four new comrades: Ben, Alisha, Isabel and Mady. They are seventh graders from Abington Friends School who came by for a visit last week. Together they discussed the characters, places, events and symbols in The Neverending Story. I am pleased to say that the seventh graders have become as enchanted with the story as we are!
An AFS student works with third grade on a Neverending Story project.
Speaking of The Neverending Story I have some big news: we are nearly done with the first half of the book!
Last Week's "Grade Three Gazette"
There are lots of exciting things happening in Third Grade right now. The class will be discussing the design of the encyclopedia CD-ROM and submit their requests to a developer. If that weren’t exciting enough TURKEYS are going on strike in our classroom! Perhaps I should clarify---
Ms. Karrie-Lynn has begun volunteering in our classroom as a drama instructor. Ms. Karrie-Lynn and I believe that theatre helps to enhance reading comprehension, fluency and expression. In order to get the kids excited about Thanksgiving and the theatre program, they are going to be performing “The Turkeys Go on Strike.” It is a Thanksgiving play in which the turkeys decide not to be served as Thanksgiving dinner. The children will be assigned parts and will be required to study their lines. In the future, the children will read excerpts of novels as monologues.
