Consistently following through on the 10 strategies below will increase your child’s likelihood for achievement at CPS, and establish good habits for life beyond.
1. Read to or with your child every day and discuss what you’ve read.
2. Limit television viewing to 1 to 3 hours per week; less is better.
3. Make sure your child arrives to school every day on time.
4. Monitor internet use and game playing via computer and hand-held device.
5. Monitor the media content (music, videos, television programs, etc.) to which your child is exposed.
6. Affirm your child daily.
7. Volunteer a minimum of one hour per month at school.
8. Feed your child nutritious meals and discuss why this is important.
9. Review homework daily; find a quiet, consistent place for your child to complete his/her homework.
10. Initiate a conversation with your child’s teacher(s) at least twice a month.
